First and foremost, Making Tax Digital (MTD) currently only applies to self employed individuals or landlords that have an income (gross profit, not profit) of £50,000 or more. If you earn below this threshold and don’t think you will reach it this year then you don’t need to worry about it (at least for now). The threshold is planned to change over the next 2 years though meaning in 2027 it will apply to you if your income is £30,000 or more with it dropping again to £20,000 in 2028.
According to HMRC’s Making Tax Digital population statistics (based on 2023–2024 tax returns) there are 7 million sole traders and landlords that submitted self assessments with 2.9 million of them having income above £20,000 which means 42% of them will have to adhere to MTD by 2028 so why wait? If you are still using a pen and paper get prepared now! Digitizing your earnings and costs can only help you streamline your business!

Making Tax Digital is transforming the way businesses manage and report their taxes
MTD requires businesses to keep digital records and submit tax returns using compatible software, replacing traditional manual methods. For many business owners, this shift introduces new systems, unfamiliar tools, and potential risks if not handled correctly. That’s where we come in. We take the complexity out of digital tax compliance by setting up and managing the right software solutions tailored to your business needs.
We integrate cloud-based accounting systems that allow you to access real-time financial data, giving you better visibility and control over your business performance. By automating processes such as VAT submissions and record-keeping, we reduce the likelihood of human error and save you valuable time that can be better spent growing your business.
We also provide ongoing support to ensure you stay compliant as MTD continues to evolve. Our team stays ahead of legislative changes, keeping you informed and prepared so there are no surprises. With us, you can be confident that your business is always aligned with the latest regulations.
